Russia’s Pskov Oblast eyes cooperation with Belarus’ Mogilev, Brest Oblast

19/05/2026 16:39

PSKOV, 18 May (BelTA) - Pskov Oblast is looking to cooperate not only with neighboring Vitebsk Oblast but also with Mogilev and Brest oblasts, Pskov Oblast Governor Mikhail Vedernikov told the media during a working meeting with Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi in Pskov on 18 May, BelTA has learned.

Geography and logistics favor particularly close cooperation between Pskov Oblast and Belarus’ northern region. Mikhail Vedernikov noted that the regional government plans to expand cooperation with other Belarusian regions. “We have very close and fruitful ties with Vitebsk Oblast. Today we discussed the need to bring in other regions, Mogilev and Brest oblasts. I see great potential there. We plan to send business missions and also welcome our colleagues in Pskov to establish the same productive partnership as we have with Vitebsk Oblast,” he said.

During the working meeting with Dmitry Krutoi, he also noted that there are areas where cooperation could be strengthened, such as road construction and gas distribution networks, where Belarusian companies could bid for tenders, especially as Belarusian specialists already have experience working in other Russian regions.

Many industrial enterprises in Pskov Oblast are actively expanding into the Belarusian market. One of them is Sevkabel. Its Director General Aleksei Sokhrannov said that the plant supplies a tenth of its total output to Belarus. The company manufactures household and power cables. “Most of our products go to the Russian domestic market, but it is worth noting that 10% of our turnover comes from supplies to Belarus,” he said, adding that it is very easy to establish direct contacts with Belarusian consumer enterprises. “The border is just on paper. Working with the Belarusian side is very smooth, productive and problem-free.”

Pskov Oblast is also interested in the expertise of Belarusian companies in waste and recycling. The region plans to build a large waste processing plant, and Belarus is ready to share its experience in this field.
